How to prepare your backpack? How to choose the right route? What to do in case of bad weather? All these questions find answers at the MOUNTDOOR Mountain School.
It's the place where you learn the basics of mountaineering: equipment, safety, orientation, movement techniques and respect for nature. A true school of life, which prepares you for any adventure.
Safety on the mountain
This chapter is dedicated to the gradual evolution from a simple hiker to a climber prepared for technical routes and more complex mountain adventures. The goal is to develop essential skills of orientation, planning and the correct use of professional equipment, so that every mountain outing is safe and well-controlled.
Participants learn how to prepare the appropriate equipment according to the season and the difficulty of the route, how to properly use safety equipment, and how to assess mountain conditions before and during the hike. Emphasis is placed on basic mountaineering techniques, walking on rough terrain, risk management, and decision-making in unpredictable situations.
Essential mountain safety rules are also covered, such as route planning, weather checking, energy management and hydration, as well as behavior in exposed or difficult areas. This learning process transforms the mountain experience into a safer, more responsible activity and prepares participants for more advanced explorations and alpine expeditions.
We learn how to climb a mountain
This program is dedicated to children and introduces them step by step to the world of the mountain, in a safe, educational and fun way. The goal is for the little ones to learn how to become responsible little explorers, starting from easy hikes to understanding the notions of orientation and safety in the mountains.
Activities include simple nature hikes, orienteering games, discovering marked trails and learning the basics about the mountain: what a trail means, how to read a tourist sign and how to behave in nature. Children gradually learn to use the compass and map, in an interactive way, through practical exercises adapted to their age.
It also presents the essential things you should have in your backpack when hiking: water, appropriate clothing, snacks, flashlight, first aid kit and other useful items. The emphasis is on safety, responsibility and respect for nature.
The "Explorer's Guide" transforms every mountain outing into an educational adventure, where children learn through play, discovery, and direct experience the beauty and rules of the mountain.
Survival – Bushcraft
This module is dedicated to essential survival skills in nature and bushcraft techniques, i.e. the art of living and adapting in the wild using natural resources. The goal is to develop autonomy, calmness in difficult situations and the ability to make correct decisions in mountain or forest environments.
Participants learn basic elements such as navigating in nature without a signal or GPS, building an emergency shelter, lighting a fire in difficult conditions, and identifying safe natural resources. Safety, planning, and prevention of risky situations while hiking are also addressed.
Bushcraft techniques such as proper knife use, knot tying, water filtration and adapting equipment to terrain conditions are also introduced. All activities are conducted in a controlled manner, with an emphasis on safety and respect for nature.
This type of training transforms the outdoor experience into an authentic form of practical education, developing the spirit of adventure and confidence in one's own abilities.
Flora and mushrooms of the Carpathians - Practical guide
This module of the Wild Nature Academy is dedicated to learning about the biodiversity of the Carpathian Mountains, with a focus on mountain flora and edible and toxic mushrooms. Participants learn to observe, recognize and understand the role of each species in the forest ecosystem.
The course presents plants specific to alpine and subalpine areas, as well as species from deciduous and coniferous forests, found in natural areas such as Piatra Craiului National Park or the Făgăraș Mountains. Emphasis is placed on the differentiation of protected species and the importance of biodiversity conservation.
An important component is the identification of mushrooms in nature: edible species, species without culinary value and, especially, toxic mushrooms that should be avoided. Essential safety rules are taught, such as habitat recognition, avoiding confusion and responsible collection.
This practical guide is designed to provide a real and safe understanding of wild nature, transforming every mountain outing into a lesson in observation, respect and knowledge of the natural environment.
